De Fide Sincere (Sincere Faith)

Dearest, it is love that faith does impart,
Not faith itself does sow such bitter seed.
Of discord amongst the fellowship of heart,
Those who twist its word to serve their greed.
Your seasoned mind, in measured verse I find,
Has hues of love through many a circling year,
While those who rule, and those of holy kind,
Do often make sacred trust a thing of fear,
A tool to gull the simple, and gain their voice,
To swell the coffers of their earthly power.
You spoke of this, and made your heart rejoice.
To raise your cry against that shadowed hour.
So rest thee well, your bosom near does stay,
And like a shade, sail with me on my way.
